The Sectional Personnel Bridge (SPB) is a modular, mobile bridging system providing an immediate solution for infantry troops or emergency forces to cross over dry or wet gap obstacles by foot.
The SPB is in use in several countries and is combat-proven by the USMC. The SPB can bridge dry gaps up to 36m with no intermediate support. Wet gap bridging requires floats every 20m, with anchoring as needed. The footbridge can be quickly and easily deployed, with no equipment or personnel required on the far bank of the obstacle; a 36m bridge can be assembled within 10 minutes. The bridge can be launched and retrieved from either end.
The aluminum bridge sections are transported on a truck-based Palletized Load System (PLS) and include roller support, floats and litter roller. There is no need for additional special equipment or tools. Each 4m long, 43kg modular section requires two soldiers to carry. Footbridge capacity, the number of fully equipped troops that can cross simultaneously at fixed intervals, depends on the bridge span.
