Elbit Systems ISTAR Division’s Armored Vehicle solutions support day/night observation and consist of sight or automatic firing systems integrated into main battle tanks (MBT), armored fighting vehicles (AFV) and tactical vehicles. These operationally-proven sights feature 24/7 observation and aiming capabilities, advanced image processing, as well as rapid and accurate target acquisition, even at long ranges. These solutions reduce target closure time and enable the command staff to shorten the targeting operational process significantly by automatically directing the required attack system to the target.
Based on two decades of experience in developing and manufacturing Israeli Merkava MK4 technologies, Elbit Systems is the engineering authority in the IDF for gunner and commander sights, Merkava land tracker algorithms and graphical algorithms. Elbit Systems’ solutions enable customers to upgrade gunner and commander sights for various platforms, including the T72, T55, M60, BMP, Leopard and many others. The modular design of the sights combines advanced night vision technologies, direct view observation, day observation channels, and eye-safe laser range-finders with advanced line-of-sight (LOS) stabilization and hunter-killer solutions.
Elbit Systems’ solutions for armored vehicles include:
• Commander Open Architecture Panoramic Sight (COAPS) is an advanced, modular, dual-axis stabilized sight for MBTs and AFVs that facilitates long-range target acquisition both day and night. COAPS features advanced sensors, panoramic 360⁰ LOS capabilities and an elevation of -20⁰ to +60⁰. The stabilized sight is highly accurate, offering a small interface to the platform, ruggedized components and armor protection in both stationary and mobile situations. Based on open architecture, COAPS is easily adaptable to sensor additions/changes. It can function as gunner or commander sight, and can be integrated with fire control systems.
• Main Gunner Sight (MGS) is an advanced modular gunner sight that uses cutting-edge technologies, such as thermal imaging, eye safe lasers and displays. Designed for high-accuracy target engagement and firing on-the-move, the third-generation dual-axis stabilized sight is ideal for operation both day and night, in all combat scenarios and weather conditions. The sight features an eye safe laser rangefinder, day channel with high resolution day camera (HD optional) and built-in electronics unit.
• TADES M is an advanced third-generation long-wave infrared (LWIR) thermal imager for gunner sights. Operating in the 8 – 12 µm spectral band, TADES M features staring array technology, extended DRI ranges, advanced image processing algorithms, NFOV, WFOV and E-ZOOM. The imager offers up to 1280X1024 resolution with dual axis microscan.
