Laser Designators & Laser Range Finder (LRF)

One of the main laser applications in defense is laser designation. Laser designation technologies have a pivotal role in today's battlefield. The LRF became an essential component in target engagement across various domains, and even maneuvering platoons now have the independence to utilize these capabilities without the need for external assistance.
Pulsed Nd:Yag solid state lasers are used for illumination of targets, allowing low-cost homing devices to direct ammunitions in a highly precise manner, ensuring the right target is hit, and avoiding collateral damage. ISTAR & EW – Elop is one of the top worldwide providers of laser designators, developing and manufacturing over 1000 lasers annually. Our pioneering approach to use diode-pumped lasers enables miniaturization of such designators while improving technical capabilities. The company's portfolio for laser designators is very broad – from a tiny designator for tactical platoon UAVs, to large designators used in aircraft attack pods. The LRFs are combat proven in many systems used by customers all around the world, and a preferred solution for many of the world's top system homes.

 

 

Optical Fiber Lasers

Another area of expertise is the development and production of optical fiber lasers. These devices are used in Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) systems, which protect all airborne platform types from heat-seeking, ground-to-air missiles (MANPADs). With hundreds of flight hours, our DIRCM family of solutions is the only system that has been certified for commercial aviation, meeting the highest standards and quality assurance requirement necessary for equipment used by commercial aviation. 

Elbit's expertise in DIRCM systems has been instrumental in protecting military and civil platforms from various threats, including infrared-guided missiles. The company's innovative solutions in this area have helped safeguard more than 33 different airborne platform types, receiving orders for more than 350 systems to date. High-Power Laser (HPL)

A high-end, revolutionary and evolving application for optical-fiber lasers is a high-power laser, where power levels of tens and hundreds of kilowatts are required. With superior performance and high-alert response, adjusted to extreme maneuvering, the HPL provides optimal focus, groundbreaking Line of Sight (LOS), tracking and beam shaping capabilities. Based on decades of experience in laser technology, the company has been appointed as the source for MIL-SPEC high-power lasers for Israel’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) applications.   Elbit Systems' journey in the field of lasers is marked by several historical milestones and notable achievements that highlight its pioneering spirit and technological prowess.
