Chaff countermeasure is an effective decoy, which protects aircraft against radar-guided missiles. The chaff, consist of small and light fibers cut into dipoles of varying lengths that reflect radar signals in various bands. The cartridges are ejected from aircraft and disperse in the air to act as a decoy, to obscure the aircraft and avoid radar detection, increasing the aircraft protection and survivability. The CG-17 Chaff Cartridge is fit in form and function to RR- 170A/AL.
Elbit Systems™ chaff countermeasures offer reliable and effective solutions to protect a wide range of aircraft from radar-guided missiles. The chaff payload is manufactured by a fully automatic and accurate cutting and packing machine that can produce various fiber diameters, quantity and lengths. The chaff fibers are cut to defined lengths that respond to different radar wavelengths according to the customers’ requirements.
Based on more than 30 years of experience in chaff product development, drawing on analytical modeling
capabilities and years of cooperation with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Elbit Systems Land chaff solutions
are in operational use by the Israel Air Force.
