Elbit Systems is Shaping the Future of Military Flight Training
For over two decades, Elbit Systems has been at the forefront of advanced military training solutions, offering a comprehensive suite of operational support and simulation and services for air forces. With deep operational roots and a forward-thinking approach, Elbit is enhancing how air forces around the world prepare their pilots for the challenges of modern warfare.
The company has developed a reputation for delivering comprehensive, mission-oriented training solutions that prepare air force cadets not just to fly, but to fight and win in the most complex and evolving combat environments.
At the core of Elbit’s philosophy is a deep understanding that military flight training is not an academic exercise, it's a strategic imperative.
Alon, Senior Director Marketing and Business Development at Elbit Systems, articulates this ethos clearly. A pilot himself and then a flight instructor, Alon emphasizes that Elbit’s training programs are built to support cadets throughout their journey and designed to meet the operational needs of modern air forces.
“We’re not a flight club,” he says. “We train cadets to become operational combat pilots.” This mission-first mindset drives Elbit’s tailored training programs, which adapt to the evolving needs of air forces and the dynamic nature of global threats.
In many armed forces around the world, candidates selected for pilot training are rigorously pre-screened for their both cognitive and physical capabilities before entering the flight academy. Once admitted to flight training academy, cadets enter a multi-year program that combines academic education, officer training, and intensive flight instruction. The training path is carefully structured, beginning with basic flight maneuvers and progressing through advanced tactical missions, including formation flying, night operations, and low-altitude navigation. This progression ensures that by the time cadets earn their wings, they are fully prepared to integrate into operational squadrons.
Training Begins on the Ground
With employees that have the necessary real-world operational knowledge, Elbit specializes in training (including synthetic training), maintenance, logistics as well as aircraft procurement and then integrating them into the package and solution.
One of Elbit’s tools is its suite of high-fidelity simulators. According to Shai, Business Development Director of Flight Academies & Services of Elbit Systems, the Company's military pilot training solutions incorporate both airborne and ground training systems, aiming to ensure that pilots are fully prepared for any scenario they may encounter in the air.
"Over the years, simulators have been getting better, and now with a high level of visuals and high resolution, stronger computing capabilities that accurately mimics how the aircraft is acting in the air," Shai said. "When the pilot enters our Mission Training Center (MTC), and he goes to practice a mission that he's going to fly the next day, you can plug in the parameters that will simulate how it will look like- you will see it and feel it very accurately."
Shai explained that these systems are designed by integrated teams of system engineers and qualified combat-experienced pilots and replicate real-world conditions with astonishing accuracy.
"They help design the simulators to the threat scenarios that they face daily," he said.
The visuals are so immersive that pilots often feel as though they are actually flying, even though the simulators are stabilized and non-moving. "This level of realism is essential across all aircraft types, ensuring pilots develop the necessary skills and confidence before taking to the skies."
Preparing for the Unknown
But simulation is not just about realism, it’s about relevance. Elbit’s simulators and flight training scenarios are constantly updated to reflect the latest threats so that cadets are not only prepared for today’s missions but are also equipped to face the challenges of tomorrow.
The nature of warfare is changing rapidly and the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East have shown that pilots have to be ready to face a wide range of threats, many of which are still emerging. By combining operational expertise with technological innovation, Elbit ensures that its training programs remain agile, adaptive, and innovative.
"We are not building a flight school for fun. We do it to support an air force," Alon stressed.
Global Reach, Local Adaptation
The company’s global footprint reflects its ability to tailor solutions to the unique needs of different air forces. In Israel, the UK and Greece, Elbit owns and leases training platforms while providing logistics and maintenance support as well as synthetic training. In these locations, local personnel serve as instructors, with Elbit playing a critical support role.
In Albania, Elbit is pioneering a different model by providing a fully integrated training solution. This includes not only the platforms and simulator but also the flight instructors themselves. The Albanian program, which will begin with Bell 505 helicopters and one simulator, is designed for expansion and represents a leap forward in Elbit’s ability to deliver turnkey training solutions.
This is not Elbit’s first foray into helicopter flight training. The company previously operated a helicopter flight school in North Macedonia supporting the country’s pilot training needs. Additionally, Elbit has long supported the Israeli Air Force’s helicopter training program, providing logistics and maintenance for the Bell 206 platform now exchanged by a new AW119 Fleet together with Ground Based Training Center. These experiences have laid the foundation for the company’s current and future helicopter training initiatives, demonstrating a proven track record of success in this specialized domain.
Leading the Future of Flight Training
Through its comprehensive training solutions, global adaptability, and unwavering commitment to operational excellence, Elbit is helping air forces around the world prepare their pilots for the challenges of modern and future warfare. Whether in the skies over Israel, the mountains of North Macedonia, or the training fields of Albania, Elbit’s impact is clear: transforming cadets into capable, confident, and combat-ready pilots.
As the nature of warfare continues to evolve, Elbit Systems remains committed to staying ahead of the curve. The company’s training solutions are designed not only to meet today’s requirements but aim to anticipate tomorrow’s threats. By integrating advanced technologies, leveraging combat-proven expertise, and maintaining a flexible, mission-focused approach, Elbit ensures that its training programs remain relevant, effective, and future-ready.
Recent operational developments in regions such as Iran have provided valuable insights into emerging threat environments. These lessons are being translated into more realistic and responsive training scenarios, helping Elbit’s clients better prepare for the complexities of modern combat.
