Multi-Domain Symphony
Coordinating the Land, Air, and Maritime Domains: The E-Lynx™ Line of Products Highlights Elbit Systems' Advanced Tactical Communication Solutions in Today's Network Centric Warfare Environment
In the ever-changing realm of global warfare, we are witnessing a significant strategic shift across worldwide defense forces. This change marks a move away from the old days when individual military groups operated in silos, each wielding their power independently. A new paradigm is emerging, one where the combined forces of ground, air, and naval units work together seamlessly, transforming the core of strategic military planning.
This shift in mindset moves beyond the outdated approach of segregated military strengths, promoting instead a unified deployment of capabilities that brings a new level of multi-domain effectiveness to the battlefield.
In this modern era of combat, the key to uniting ground troops, aircraft, and naval forces lies in robust and dependable communication networks. Understanding this critical need, Elbit Systems’ C4I and Cyber Division has stepped up with the E-Lynx™ Product Line – an array of sophisticated secured and immune tactical network solutions designed to bolster this contemporary military strategy.
The E-Lynx™ series features a range of Software Defined Radios, specifically designed for connecting all fighting forces and platforms in the battlefield within a 3D network between all echelons and domains. Lior, Head of Wireless Communications systems and Products and R&D Programs at Elbit Systems’ C4I and Cyber Division, emphasizes a key benefit: “All our devices share a common high-end architecture, enabling them to form a secured and immune multi-domain network.”
This function enhances radio communication effectiveness across various landscapes, ensuring data security through advanced encryption techniques.
Always Connected
What distinguishes the E-Lynx™ is the remarkable technological progress made by the scientists and engineers at Elbit Systems. Lior points out, “Our major breakthrough is the fusion of highly advanced cognitive communication waveforms into one software-defined, multi-band, high-end radio solution.”
This innovative approach allows the E-Lynx™ radios to connect within secure and exclusive networks, functioning across different frequency bands – dominating the spectrum. Moreover, the system’s processing capabilities and RF performance are unparalleled in today’s market.
Understanding the distinctiveness of this requires a comparison with the traditional communication methods still in use in many armed forces globally. Commonly, each combat or command and control (C2) unit is equipped with its own specific radio device with one function in mind, which often complicates efficient communication during conflict situations.
E-Lynx™ radios share a modular architecture, support a range of wireless communication waveforms, provide multiple services within a single network and allow connectivity to multiple networks from a single radio. The same E-Lynx™ Handheld and Manpack radios can be operated either by dismounted troops or within mounted ground and naval platforms via amplified Vehicular Adapters (VAs) and the E-Lynx™ Airborne configurations allow connecting also aerial platforms to the network. This significantly improves connectivity, versatility and mission efficiency while reducing operation and maintenance overheads.
A notable advantage of the E-Lynx™ radio system is its capability to substantially improve signal coverage by relaying signals across various configurations. Elaborating on this, Lior explains, “This feature is particularly beneficial for maintaining communication with ground forces in areas where connectivity is typically challenging, or reception is weak.”
In the realm of warfare, as in civilian life, the importance of constant availability cannot be overstated. To meet this challenge, the E-Lynx™ suite incorporates specialized mechanisms that operate across a range of waveforms and utilize unique concurrent flooding methods. This approach guarantees uninterrupted connectivity, even in the face of rapidly changing network topologies. As a result, users benefit from an “always connected” experience, crucial in dynamic combat environments.
Supporting Multi-Domain Connectivity
Lior acknowledges the necessity of standing out in this competitive field. “We’re seeing more and more forces transitioning to joint operation approach,” he remarks.
In response, Elbit Systems has been developing a solution that addresses this evolving demand. After years of meticulous design and rigorous testing, the E-Lynx™ Product Line is now successfully deployed in various Armed forces around the globe.
The E-LynX™ Product Line provides advanced, secured, immune and robust military IP network with real-time services including fast connectivity, Video streaming, Voice communication and Command and Control – all within the same network. The advanced Software Defined Radios provide multi-band, multi-channel, best S.W.a.P and with plenty of growth capabilities via software updates to the radio waveforms.
Looking to the future, Lior shares insights into the next phase of the E-Lynx™ Product Line, with plans to integrate civilian bearers into the network, satellite capabilities, more frequency bands, advanced cognitive engines and spectrum applications embedded within the radios. “The possibilities are boundless; our task is to continually assess and lead the industry’s direction”, he concludes.
